Alice Boykin Butler

Alice Boykin Butler died Monday after a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Alice was the last surviving child born to the Rev. Herndon and Rosa Boykin of Rock Ridge. She graduated from Rock Ridge School in 1945 and later moved to Raleigh, where she worked in the textbook division for the N.C. Department of Public Instruction until her retirement.
She and her late husband, Lawrence, enjoyed participating in the Senior Games in Raleigh and were members of Fairmont United Methodist Church. Alice was a charter resident of Parkwood Village in Wilson and was loving tended to by their employees and her Wilson nieces, Nancy Boykin and Lisa Boykin Batts, for almost 11 years.
She is survived by Lawrence’s grandchildren, Andy Prince, Charlotte Smith, Matthew Prince, Katelin Hawks and Noel Prince; his nine great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia Finch, James Allison Boykin, L.H. Boykin Jr., Fred Boykin and Nellie Rose Lassiter.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Marsh Swamp Free Will Baptist Church in Rock Ridge. Her nephew, the Rev. Phillip Boykin, will officiate. Visitation will follow.
