Alice Wiggins Mercer
February 6, 1931 – November 20, 2016
Alice Wiggins Mercer, 85, of Elm City passed Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. David Allen will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times on Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Ann Norvell.
Alice passed peacefully to join her soul mate and devoted husband of sixty-four years, Clarence. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to all that knew her. Alice was greatly loved and she will be dearly missed. She was a former employee of the London Shop.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Ann Norvell and husband, Harry of Wilson; her son, Charles Mercer and wife, Pamela of Elm City; her granddaughters, Macon Mercer Cockrell, and Heather Price; her grandsons, Wesley Evans, Junior Brinkley, Anthony Mercer and Anthony Price; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Jean Joyner and husband, Delton of Elm City; her brother, Billy Wiggins and wife, Becky of Elm City, and her sisters-in-law, Katherine Bryant of Elm City and Betsy Mercer of Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ervin Mercer; parents, John T. and Lenora Taylor Wiggins, and a sister, Mable Gurley.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed in Alice’s honor to the Pleasant Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 5018 Rosebud Church Road, Elm City, North Carolina 27822.
