Alvin Ray Phillips, Sr., 70, of Elm City passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Gene Wells and Rev. Melissa Nethery will officiate. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Al was an extremely loving husband, father and Poppy. His family meant the world to him. He always loved his Sunday lunches with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an outstanding softball player and also loved planting his flowers. Al was loved by many and everyone who met him realized what a good man he was. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Phillips; four daughters, Pamela Short and husband Tony of Wilson, Jennifer Giles and husband Steven of Raleigh, Teresa Nguyen and husband Nhan of Sims, Sharon Worrell and husband Jason of Bailey; one son, Alvin Phillips, Jr. and wife Patricia of Elm City; two sisters, Eula Corbett of Winterville, Mary Alice Wells and husband Talmage of Rocky Mount; three brothers, RP Phillips of Rocky Mount, Darrell Phillips and wife Glenda of Laurinburg and Edgar Phillips and wife Janice of Pleasant Garden; four granddaughters, Heather Evans and husband Justin, Jennifer Cera and Hope Nguyen, Becca Worrell; eight grandsons, Dustin Short, Eric and Brian Giles, Drew and Chris Phillips, David and Matthew Nguyen, Brad Worrell; one great granddaughter, Brooke Evans, two great grandsons, Alex and Nick Evans, and his dog PJ. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, James Thurman and Lossie Price Phillips; two sisters Louise McKeel, Nancy Wiggins; two brothers, James Luther and John Thomas Phillips.
