Arnold Leland Formo, Jr.

Arnold “Arnie” Leland Formo, Jr., 90, of Wilson passed away Thursday. His memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The Rev. Tom Watkins will officiate.
Arnie was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arnold L. Formo and Manilla Landru Formo on February 10, 1927. He served in the Army in Marburg, Germany from 1945 – 1947, and swam on the Allied Swim Team. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. Arnie worked with his father in business, Collapsible Container Company in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He met and married the love of his life, Arla Marie Koch. In 1958, the company moved to Wilson. He eventually took over the running of the company. Arnie was a supporter of the Boy Scouts, working with scouts for over forty years. He joined the Raleigh Area Masters Swim Club and competed nationally.
Arnie is survived by his children, Wendy Formo Akers of Clarkston, Georgia, Arnold “Lee” Leland Formo, III and wife, Mary Alice Williamson of Monroe, Virginia, Steven Neil Formo and wife Dawn Boyette of Halifax, Richard Alan Formo and wife, Jesus Perez Baudriz of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, Brian David Formo and wife, Erin McIntosh of Wilson, and Marcy Formo Weston and husband, Danny of Kenansville; twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arla Koch Formo.
