Avon Bryant
June 17, 1940 – April 9, 2020
Avon Bryant, 79 of Bailey passed unexpectedly, but peacefully on Thursday, April 9. All fathers are a work in progress - non-perfect - not one. But a true father steps up and takes care of his family; he is protective and encouraging; he is a wall of trust and security. He is a pillar of strength, support and discipline. He understands his children are human and making mistakes is part of growing up. This was our imperfect father; always there in the best way he knew how to be. He was a loyal friend to those in all walks of life. Always the jokester and storyteller, he would give the shirt off his own back to help someone else. He was raised without parents as both of his parents passed when he was a child. He suffered much loss and tragedy during his life. He was self-taught. Yet, he was of a strong will and brave spirit. He worked hard and gave much. He loved nothing more than a houseful of people to share a meal and laughter. He was truly blessed with loving friends. We are thankful for each one of you. His family was everything and he was everything to us all. Surely nothing will ever be the same, but we will honor you by being a true friend, a good neighbor, loving parents and grandparents and by always being ready to share a laugh and make a memory with those we love.
Avon is survived by his daughter, Tammy Pope (Chad) of Stantonburg; son, Jeff Bryant (Angie Glover) of Bailey; grandchildren, Bryant Pope (Carolyn) of Wilson, Griffin Pope Bass (Brian) of Wilson, Grayson and Holly Bryant of Knightdale; great-grandchildren, Darden Grace Bass, Charlotte Louise Bass, Olivia Rose Pope and baby girl Pope arriving in June.
He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-four years, Louise Brown Bryant and his son, Stanley Avon Bryant.
The family would like to personally thank his many loyal friends who visited him regularly and special thanks to Betty Carlyle.
A private graveside service will be held for the family.
We will conduct a drive–thru visitation from 4 – 6 p.m. Monday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net
