Barbara Bissette Dunbar July 15, 1945- February 9, 2020 Barbara Bissette Dunbar of Middlesex, peacefully passed from this life on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2020 at WakeMed Hospital, Raleigh. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Barbara was born on July 15, 1945 in Nash County, to the late Belle Lewis Bissette and Amos Cleveland Bissette. She is survived by her daughter, Candi Walston and husband, Greg of Wendell, and her grandson, Jaxon Price. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Thomas of Raleigh and brothers, Harold Bissette of Raleigh and Steve Bissette of Middlesex. Barbara will also be forever remembered by her many nieces and nephews and extended family. Barbara grew up attending school in Middlesex. She served in the Women’s Army Corp from July 1963 - November 1969. She was a Specialist E6. She also served in the National Guard. Serving her country was one of the greatest times in Barbara’s life. Barbara resided in Middlesex after returning from her military career. Barbara also retired with thirty plus years of service to the State of North Carolina. She worked for the NC Department of Labor in the Apprenticeship Division as well as the Education and Training Division for OSHA. Barbara cherished spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed family gatherings and good food. Barbara enjoyed walking, reading, taking pictures and doing word search puzzles. She loved volunteering and sought out ways to be of service to others. She was a strong Christian and an active member of Bailey United Methodist Church. She was involved in the Family Food Basket Ministry at her church and attended Bible study. Barbara will be especially missed for her little notes of advice, dedication, infectious laugh and no-nonsense personality. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Bailey United Methodist Church, 12437 Green Street, Bailey. The service will be officiated by Dr. Michael Coppock. A military graveside service will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Middlesex. Flowers are welcome or the family requests memorials be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, PO Box 758589, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8589.
