Barnes "Barney" Preston Mumford

Barnes “Barney” Preston Mumford, 80, of Garner passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025.

 Barney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, a friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed all the things outdoors, especially fishing at Riverside and spending time at his house in Beaufort. Barney’s pride was his granddaughter, Brianna, and he cherished every moment he could spend with her. In his later years, all he needed to be happy was his family and a cheeseburger.

 Leaving memories to his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Susan Millner (Don); granddaughter, Brianna Strickland all of Garner; sister, Elaine Smith (Bill) of Concord; nieces, Lisa Williams (Brad) of Rocky Mount, and Melissa Protheroe of Concord; and his nephews, Gary Bryant (Diane) of Sims, Keith Smith of Concord and Seth Smith (Carla) of Concord.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dorethea Mumford, and his brother, Jimmy Mumford.

 A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in Bailey Town Cemetery, Hwy 581, Bailey. Services will be conducted by Reverend Bill Pollock of Beaufort and soloist Janie Hodges of Rocky Mount.

 The road without you will be sad and long. I’ll shed a tear for every mile. But I know when I reach the end of my journey, you will be waiting for me with a smile. Much love, Bonnie.
