Benjamin "Benny" Fitzhugh Smith, Jr.

Benjamin “Benny” Fitzhugh Smith, Jr., 81 of Goldsboro passed away Friday, August 23, 2024. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 S US 117, Dudley. Rev. Gene Wells will officiate.

 Benny was with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for thirty years and retired as 1st Sergeant. He also served as editor of The NC Highway Patrol Magazine. Benny was a member of Sudan Shrine, where he served on the wrecking crew and as Recorder. He also served as editor of the Red Fez Magazine for the Shrine. Benny was also a member of Mount Lebanon Lodge #117.

Benny is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Laurie Ann Miller Smith; daughter, Leigh Smith Harris and husband, Robert of Dover; son, Ben Smith and wife, Christie of Wilson; grandchildren, Jessica Grace Harris, Noah Robert Harris, Laurie Shiloh Harris, Anna Lee Smith, and Benjamin Smith, IV, and his brother, Johnny Mack Smith of Mt. Olive.
