Bennie Michael Coleman

Bennie Michael Coleman, 77 of Knightdale passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Wake Med Raleigh after experiencing a heart valve aneurysm.   Bennie was born October 12, 1946, to Grover Cleveland Coleman, Jr. and Ida Boykin Coleman of Sims.

He graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1965 and served four years in the US Air Force as an air frame repairman and was a Vietnam Veteran stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Taiwan, and Vietnam.  Upon returning home he enrolled in a Machinist Program at Wilson Technical Institute and was one of three students to receive the Outstanding Student Award and the President’s Award.

In 1974 he and Ann moved to Raleigh where he attended Wake Technical Institute enrolling in their Tool and Die Program.  After completing his schooling he was employed at Stackpole Corp, Ark-Les and retired from Electroswitch in 2019.

Bennie was a jack of all trades and could repair, build, or fix just about anything.  He was very precise with measuring tools and close tolerance and good at problem solving.   While employed at Ark-Les he made several business trips to Boston, Canada, Florida, Portugal, and Italy.

Bennie is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Ann Rodgers Coleman; son, Bennie Michael Coleman, Jr. of Wendell; sisters, Sandra Sullivan of Kenly, and Jo Anne Bass of Wilson; brother, Harold Coleman and wife, Kay of Raleigh, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.  Rev. William Futrell will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, prior to the service from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
