Bessie Batts Hathaway, 97, of Wilson passed away Tuesday.  Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.  The Rev. Gary Walling will officiate. The family will receive friends 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro St. N, Wilson. Bessie was a longtime member of First Christian Church.  She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bessie is survived by her daughter, Anne Hathaway Ballenger and husband, Ray of High Point; her son, Richard E. “Dick” Hathaway of Columbia, SC; her granddaughters, Cindy Ballenger Dray and husband, Dean of Clayton, Patricia Ballenger Hall and husband, Brent of Boone, and Donna Hathaway Weatherford of Columbia, SC; her grandsons, Randy Ballenger and wife, Sabrina of Fuquay-Varina and Richard E. Hathaway and wife, Deanna of Chapin, SC; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Edward Hathaway; parents, K.R. Batts and Lessie Coggins Batts; four sisters, Annie Mae Reaves, Elizabeth Barefoot, Catherine Bissette, and Ruby Gielow; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Boyette Hathaway.
