Billy Penlton Page, 84 of Wilson passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The service will be conducted by his son, Jerry Page.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Billy was born in Wilson County on October 5, 1939. He spent his life farming and doing carpentry work before taking a job with Hackney Tire Company. After leaving Hackney, he took a job with Sealtest Dairy delivering ice cream products to local grocery stores all over eastern North Carolina. From there, he made his final career change in 1974 to become a tire builder with Firestone Tire Company. He stayed in this role until retiring in the 1990's. During this time, he made the transition from Daddy to Granddaddy and spent his remaining years enjoying the company of his ever-growing family. He loved having a yard sale and thoroughly enjoyed negotiating with his potential customers over price. He attended many sporting events over the years with most involving his children and grandchildren. We are sure that umpires all over the county are breathing a sigh of relief that he will no longer be tormenting them. He always enjoyed going to the beach for a day of either surf fishing or pier fishing. To fill in the idle time of retirement, he took up the hobby of riding around neighborhoods daily and picking up swings, grills, bikes, and basketball goals that others had discarded. These would go back to his workshop where they would be refurbished and then incorporated into his yard sales. In his later years he enjoyed the company of his breakfast club friends at Bojangles and McDonalds, as well as his community at The Landing. It can certainly be said that he never met a stranger and loved being with people.
Billy is survived by his sons, Jerry Page and wife, Robin of Wilson, Joey Page and wife, Tonya of Bailey, and Jimmy Page and wife, Linda of Wilson; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sister, Beverly Page Boyette and husband, Rob of Lucama; brothers, Buddie Page and wife, Agnes of Wilson, and Ronald Page and wife, Lynn of Pittsboro and his in-laws, Judy Proctor and Eddie of Wilson, and Gerald Jomp and Comilla of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Jomp Page; son, John Page, and his parents, Oliver and Dolly Page.
