Billy Raynor Woodard
September 8, 1935 – March 20, 2015
Billy Raynor Woodard, 79, of Wilson passed away Friday. His graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Joe Shakour will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1 – 2 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Billy served his country with honor for twenty-one years with the U.S. Air Force as a Bomb Navigation Technician on B52’s. He invented a prototype for an early ground warning system for the U.S Air Force. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Billy is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Beverly Woodard; his sons, Troy A. Woodard and wife, Terri of Vista, California, and Mark E. Woodard of Clarksville, Tennessee; his grandson, Caleb J. Woodard of South Korea; his sisters, Marjorie Watson of Tucson, Arizona, and Edythe Joyner and husband, Jimmy of Bailey; his brothers, Herbert Woodard and wife, Anne of Raleigh, Jimmy Woodard of Schaumburg, Illinois, and Bobby Woodard and wife, Glenn of Wake Forest, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Melton Woodard and Hattie Glover Woodard, and several sisters and brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in honor of Billy be donated to the charity of one’s choice.
