Blanche Marie Joyner December 15, 1928 – June 7, 2018 Blanche Joyner, 89, of Coopers Community passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 7, 2018. She was born December 15, 1928 in Nash County to Robin Cornelius and Mattie Bone Joyner. Her funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Joyner’s Family Cemetery, Joyner Road, Elm City. The Rev. Bob Rose and Rev. Ron Gurganus will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 2 – 2:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of, Benjamin and Diane Vester, 6686 Lucas Road, Elm City. Blanche graduated from Coopers School and furthered her education at Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, and Bowling Green Business College, Bowling Green, Kentucky. She returned to Nash County and worked at Branch Banking and Trust Mortgage department in Wilson, and later moved to Raleigh and worked for many years with US Gypsum. In the late 1970’s she worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Nashville until she retired. Blanche was an avid reader and has collected a large library of books. She shared selflessly with others; she crocheted many afghans and baby blankets, sent greeting cards, ran errands to help those in need for her family, friends, and the community. Blanche was a good steward of the farmlands, where she enjoyed tending her flowers, and kept the “homeplace” and family cemetery well landscaped. Blanche was a member of the Sandy Cross United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Compassion Café in Nashville. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Robin and Mattie Joyner; sister, Christine Vester, and her brothers, Randolph and Horace Joyner. She is survived by her niece, Faye Vester Dozier and husband, Eddie of Greenville; nephews, Benjamin Vester and wife, Diane of Elm City, and Danny Joyner of Buncombe County; great nieces, Susanne Dozier Mullis and husband, Mike, Kristina Vester Griffin and husband, Josh, and Erin Joyner Londenberg and husband, Alex; great nephews, Robin Vester and wife, Marcy, Jonathon Vester and wife, Amy, Christopher Dozier and wife, Michelle, and Daniel Joyner; great-great nieces, Natalie, Mallory, Loralee Griffin, Olivia Vester, Phoebe Vester, and Aiden Londenberg, her great-great nephews, Gabriel and Matthew Mullis, Colin Vester, and Baeden, Lachlan and August Vester.
