Brenda Johnson Owens

April 23, 1942 – January 7, 2022

Brenda Johnson Owens, 79, of Elm City passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Brenda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a strong-willed woman who fought a hard fight until the bittersweet end. She loved her family with all of her heart and always put everyone before herself. Brenda enjoyed many great times with family and friends at Lake Gaston over the years. She adored her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson and nothing made her happier than to care for and spend time with them.

A graveside service will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Elm City on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 11am. Rev. Rex Edwards will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6pm – 8pm in the evening on Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Ellis Johnson Jr.; her daddy, James Atlas Green; mother, Alma Ruth Green and her longtime companion, Marvin Earl Mercer whom she loved dearly.

Brenda is survived by her daughters, Genia Lynn Owens of the home and Angela Owens Wilson (Bobby); granddaughters, Jennifer Wilson Gonyea (Gary) and Tiffany Ruth Wilson; great grandchildren, Brian Cameron Davis (Alexus), Janice Breann Davis and Jeremiah Cole Gonyea; great-great grandson, George Tucker Davis; brother Jimmy Green (Paula); sister, Susan Patton (Nicky) and nephew, Howard Patton.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Savannah Lamm, hospice nurse, for her exceptional care of and concern for Brenda’s needs during her final days.
