Carl Graham Barnes October 19, 1923 – March 15, 2018 Carl Graham Barnes, 94, of Wilson passed away Thursday. His funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. LaVon Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson, and other times at the home. Carl was the oldest member of Farmington Heights Church and was the founder of Carl G. Barnes and Son Construction Company. He never met a stranger and his infectious smile was warming. Carl never thought that he would grow old. He loved gardening, carpentry, fishing, hunting, the beach, and the UNC Tar heels. Carl loved his family and most especially loved the Lord. Carl is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Lois Newcomb Barnes of the home; his daughters, Pegi Sharp and husband, Rhine of Wilson, and Ginger Boyette and husband, Tony of Wilson; his son, Charles Barnes of Wilson and fiancé, Kit; granddaughters, Sarah Boyette Skelly, and husband, Chris, Karley Sharp, Caroline Sharp, Kelly Barnes, Meredith Sharp, and, Jesslyn Boyette; his grandson, Lucas Barnes & wife, Nichole, and his great-children, Everett Graham Barnes, Kamden Murphy, Gretchen Skelly, and Hannon Skelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry Barnes and Nettie Tomlinson Barnes; granddaughter, Julie Boyette; sister, Virginia Barnes Brantley, and his brother, Willie Bruce Barnes. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials in Carl’s memory to Meals on Wheels, 2306 Cedar Run Place, Wilson, North Carolina 27895 or Community Home Care and Hospice, 2841 Daisy Lane, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
