Carl Vernon Williams, Sr.
June 1, 1926 – September 23, 2019
Carl Vernon Williams, Sr., 93 of Wilson passed away Monday. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at Daniels Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 4828 Frank Price Church Road, Wilson. The Rev. Bill Groce will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening following the service at Daniels Chapel and other times at the home of his daughter, Carla Bryant.
Carl graduated from Atlantic Christian College and ECU. He was the principal of Middlesex Elementary School. He was an avid ECU fan, Pirate Club Member and Fike High School sports supporter. Carl was a former councilman of Atlantic Beach Town and stalwart defender of water accesses.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Carla Bryant and husband, Dick of Wilson; his sons, Carl “Bubba” Williams, Jr. and wife, Joy of Pikeville, Perry Williams and wife, Diane of Chocowinity and Spencer Williams and wife, Trina of Wilson; grandchildren, Randy Young, Leigh Ann Bryant, Scott Williams, Amy Alligood, Madison Williams, Drayton Williams and Elery Williams; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Haleigh, Bryce, Conner, Coleman, Levi, Carleigh and Maddox; sisters, Bonnie Stophel of Eden and Llewellyn Jones of Wilson and his brother, Bill Williams of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Williams; infant son, Henry Williams and his brother, Norman Williams.
