Carl Milton Winstead, 91, of Wilson passed away Sunday.  Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery with full military honors accorded.  The Rev. Ronald S. Mizell will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Carl was an ordained minister with the Church of God for thirty years. Carl served his country honorably and faithfully with the U.S. army during World War II.  He was engaged in battles in Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe.  He was decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, EAMT Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart.  He was a POW for eight months in Germany.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and DAV.  Carl was a member of Snowd Branch Church of God in Washington. Carl is survived by his wife, Glenda Mizelle Winstead of the home; his son, Carlton B. Winstead and wife, Melba of Princeton; his granddaughter, Carmon Pollock and husband, Charles of Kenly; his grandson, Jonathan G. Winstead and wife, Nicole of Princeton; his four great-grandchildren, Thorne, Morgan, Noah and Austin; his two sisters, Betty Webb of Wilson and Ann Lamm of Roanoke Rapids, and his brother, Will R. Winstead and wife, Delano of Kinston. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty B. Winstead and his parents, Daniel Winstead and Bertha Collier Winstead.
