Celia Ashe Batchelor
February 8, 1947 – September 1, 2018
Celia Ashe Batchelor of Wilson, loving mother and sister, passed at 71. Her funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 202 N Goldsboro Street, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Marty Stebbins and Father Philip Byrum will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Celia was a passionate mother and educator. She inspired the minds of fourth graders and fifth graders for almost forty years; having devoted most of her career in Gainesville, Georgia and Wilson. She had an affinity for language arts and instilled this in her students, who were instrumental in the legislation for promoting the sweet potato to be the state vegetable. Celia never stopped reminding her students and her sons, John and Will that they are capable of anything to which they apply themselves.
Celia was a devoted wife and mother who encouraged and supported all interests that John and Will sought. She spoiled her beloved dog, Hannah every chance she had. Her magnetic charm and quick wit were often found in the halls of St. Timothy’s and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she was involved in groups and events.
Celia is survived by her sons, John Ashe Batchelor and William Thomas Batchelor, both of Raleigh; her sister, Hervey Willard Ashe of Rougemont, and her beloved dog, Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas Batchelor and her parents, John Grange Ashe and Katherine Jones Ashe.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Celia’s memory to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 1527, Wilson, North Carolina or to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 4405, Wilson, North Carolina 27893.
