Charles “Charlie” Ray Ferrell, Sr., 100 years old of Wilson, North Carolina was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1924, in Lucama, North Carolina.
Charlie was a World War II Veteran, serving as a Corporal in the European Campaign 581 AAA Gun Battalion (anti-aircraft) from 1942 – 1946. After leaving the service he went to work as an appliance repair man for Refrigeration and Appliances, and later becoming part owner. After closing the store in 1984 he owned Charlie Ferrell’s Appliance Service, only repairing appliances. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching races, playing golf and being with his family.
Charlie was a life member of the American Legion for fifty-two years, Moose Lodge where he served as past governor with his pilgrim degree; the Masonic Lodge 117, The Shrine Club, The Sudan Horse Patrol, The Elks Lodge, VFW, and a faithful member and servant of Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Charlie was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife and father to his family. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ruth Davis for sixty-seven years; his five children, Charles Ray Ferrell, Jr. of Sims, North Carolina; Stephen Ferrell and wife, Ann of Newport News, Virginia; Becky Hargis and husband, Greg of Archer Lodge, North Carolina, Jeannie Guthrie and husband, Tim of Cedar Point, North Carolina and Brenda England of Newport News, Virginia; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Mary Olive Lane of Wilson, North Carolina and Yvonne Roberson of Richmond, Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dollie Ferrell; sisters, Evelyn Ferrell and Dorothy Ferrell; his brothers, Leo Ferrell, and Woodrow Ferrell, and his children, Harvey Lynn Ferrell and Elizabeth Ann Morton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 1407 Forest Hills Road NW, Wilson, North Carolina. A graveside service will follow with Military and Masonic Rites in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson, North Carolina. Pastor Mark Harrell will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 – 2:45 p.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church, Wilson, North Carolina
