Charles Maynard Duke, Sr. July 27, 1931 – January 17, 2018 Charles Maynard Duke, Sr., 86 of Wilson passed away Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Wayne Whitley will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Maynard had a love for fishing and had many fishing tales to prove it! In recent years he enjoyed fishing on occasion with his son, Charlie and brother-in-law, Raleigh Scott. He also loved his vegetable garden and with the help of his grandson, Hunter Smith he continued tending his garden even though his health had declined. Maynard loved his family and spending time with his grandkids and especially helping with his great-grandkids when he could. He always greeted them with an apple or orange and cookies. Maynard will be missed by many who loved him. Maynard is survived by his daughters, Rose Stone and husband, Wayne, Beverly Smith, and Donna Ellis and husband, David all of Wilson; his son, Charles M. Duke, Jr., and wife, June of Wilson; grandchildren, Amy Sharp, Beth Williford and husband, Shane, Brandon Duke and wife, Ashley, Abigail Duke, Chad Ellis and wife, Meagan, Tyler Ellis and wife, Allison, Hunter Smith and wife, LeighAnn, and Brooke Langley and husband, Ronnie all of Wilson; great-grandchildren, Robbie Sharp, Dylan Williford, Brileigh Smith, Braxton Smith, Bennett Smith, Walston Langley, Charlotte Langley, Ellie Ellis, Aiden Ellis, and Luke Ellis all of Wilson; his brother, Royce Duke of Rocky Mount, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Tedder Duke; parents, Charlie and Nolia Duke; sister, Aileen Amerson, and his brothers, Elmer Duke, Gordon Duke, A.D. Duke, and Ralph Duke.
