Clarence LaVern Haeflinger

Clarence Haeflinger, 82, of Lucama passed away on November 7, 2023 after a brief illness.
Clarence was a 36-year continuous member of the American Legion and very active in AL Post 13 Wilson since moving to NC in 2001.  He was also an active member in the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8, and Forty and Eight Locale 930 Wilson County.  He could be found at almost every event involving service to and recognition of veterans in Wilson County and beyond.
Clarence was Dad to sons, Howard (Susan) Kostelecky, Dan (Terry) Kostelecky, and daughter Donna (Len) Woodward.  He had 6 grandchildren – Phillip Kostelecky, Danny and Katie Kostelecky, and Nathan, Naomi and Noah Woodward.  He had 2 great grandchildren – Avery and Braylen Woodward.

Also surviving are sons from his first marriage, John (Suzanne) Haeflinger and Dan Haeflinger.  He had 3 grandchildren – Denna, Chelsea and Hunter Haeflinger.

Surviving are sisters Ruth Schild and Rachel (Terry) Ward, nephews, Rodney Schild and Matthew Ward, and nieces Joanne Brown, Diane Freidt, Sherry Morrison, and Rebecca Foulk.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Della Haeflinger, parents Fred Haeflinger and Oletha Haeflinger Andorf and stepfather, Theodore Andorf, sister Mae McKinley, and brothers-in-law Myron Schild and David McKinley.

Clarence received many awards and recognition for the tremendous amount work he did for AL Post 13, DAV Chapter 8, and Forty and Eight Locale 930.  Special thanks to the Robert B. Anderson Post 13 Family members, Patriot Guard Riders, and DAV President Ray Chambers for all the military funeral services.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.  Inurnment will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 19 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at Joyner's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Legion Post 13, PO Box 3065, Wilson, NC 27895.
