Clarence “Les” Hanna, Jr.

Clarence “Les” Hanna, Jr., 93, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at his residence in Wilson, North Carolina. Les was born February 11, 1925 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and grew up in Erie. He was the son of the late Clarence Leslie Hanna, Sr. and Dorothy Harleman Hanna.
Les was a decorated veteran of the United States Army in World War II, having served in an artillery unit which fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his discharge, he became a watchmaker and jeweler, moving to St. Petersburg, Florida where he came to own and operate Shaw Jewelers. Later, he worked for Honeywell as a mechanical technician until his retirement.
Les was a fine Christian gentleman who gave dedicated service throughout his life, most visibly in the visitation and property ministries of Mirror Lake and Palm Lake Christian Churches in St. Petersburg. He was honored as an Elder Emeritus upon leaving St. Petersburg. In addition, his woodworking and craftsmanship were seen throughout both church buildings. In retirement, Les expanded his volunteer activities. He and his wife gave a day each week to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, and supported the work of Mended Hearts. They were regular participants in charity walks and other events.
Most of all, Les will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Elaine Hanna; daughters, Linda Walling (Gary) and Judy Hanna; grandchildren, Todd Carson (Julie), Colleen Beinhauer (Mike), Kristen Walling, and Ryan Walling (Ali Clunk); great-grandchildren, Atticus and Kai Carson, and Paul Beinhauer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lyonel Hanna. In addition, he leaves a host of friends as well as an uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
