Clarence Ervin Mercer

November 22, 1931 – September 6, 2013

Clarence Ervin Mercer, 81, of Elm City passed away Friday.  Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Pastor Johnny Hendricks and Rev. David Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Clarence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him.  He will be thought of often with loving memories and will hold a place in the hearts of those that love him.  Clarence was retired from Teledyne Thermatics as a supervisor, a previous salesman for R.E. Quinn Furniture Company and a lifetime farmer.  He was a deacon of Pleasant Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Elm City. Clarence is survived by his wife, Alice Wiggins Mercer of the home; his son, Charles Mercer and wife, Pamela of Elm City; his daughter, Ann Norvell and husband, Harry of Wilson; his grandsons, Wesley Evans of Wilmington, Anthony Mercer of Wilson, Anthony Price of Franklin and Junior Brinkley of Wilson; his granddaughters, Macon Mercer Cockrell of Wilson and Heather Price of Elm City; six great-grandchildren; his brother, James Mercer and wife, Betsy of Wilson and his sister, Katherine Bryant of Elm City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lillie Mercer; his brother-in-law, Wilbur Bryant and his nephew, Glenn Bryant.
