Danny Ray Wilson

Danny Ray Wilson, 73 of Sims passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family. His funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Burial with military honors will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park following the service. The Rev. Dr. Paul Batson and Rev. Chase Caldwell will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.
After high school graduation, Danny proudly served his country in the US Army and fought in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he began his career at Hackney Brothers and worked there until they closed. He was then employed by Waukesha in Goldsboro before returning to Wilson where he worked and retired from Bridgestone/Firestone.
He was a faithful member and deacon of Nobles Chapel Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and hang out with his hunting buddies.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Peggy B. Wilson; daughter, Cindy Wilson and Ed Perry of Sims; son, Mike Wilson of Clayton and daughter-in-law, Lydia Wilson of Kenly; brothers, Johnny Wilson and wife, Rendy of Durham and Woody Wilson and wife, Doris of Sims; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Glover and Sarah Purkerson both of Sims, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Woodrow and Alice Phillips Wilson and brother, James “Jim” Wilson.

A special Thank You to Ann Durham of Community Hospice who was our angel, especially during his final hours. Our heartfelt appreciation to our friends and neighbors, Rusty and Pam Barnes, who have gone above and beyond the commandment to “love thy neighbor”.
