August 4, 1939 – January 9, 2014

David Lee Speight, 74, of Wilson passed away Thursday.  A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Black Creek Cemetery.  The Rev. James Speight and Rev. Benjamin Poythress will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home. David is survived by his wife, Peggy Dawson Speight of the home; his daughter, Dianne Pridgen and husband, Randy of Black Creek; his sons, Glenn Speight and wife, Susan of Wilson and Randy Speight of Wilson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Doris Aycock of Kenly, Rose “Pete” Woodard of Kenly, Louise Bullock of Clarksville, TN; Myrtle West of Fremont; Esther Ferrell of Four Oaks, Mary Bellinghouser of Austin, TX and Margie Speight of Eureka; his brothers, Clarence “Sam” Speight of Dothan, AL, Gene Speight of Black Creek and Rev. James Speight of Monroe; his step-son, Robert Kemp Raper and wife, Heidi of Wilson; his step-daughter, Dominie Raper of Wilson; two-step grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Speight; his first wife, Fannie Pearl Speight; his parents, Fred and Sally Lamm Speight; his sister, Martha Watson and his brother, Tom Speight.
