Deas Capehart Linville of Wilson, North Carolina, passed away November 24, 2024, with her family at her side, just as she had always been at their side throughout her life. Her vivaciousness, warmth and gift for gab made her a true light to her children, grandchildren and friends as well as strangers she connected with at the grocery store, walking on the beach or anywhere else.
Born to Mary Eugenia Shuford Capehart and Burwell Boykin Capehart in Florence, South Carolina, Deas was the middle of two sisters and loved her southern roots. The family moved to Greensboro when Deas was 12 after her father got a promotion with Exxon Corp.
She graduated from Page High School, started a family and later went to work in the dental industry where she met Walt, the love of her life. They married August 14th, 1982, and Deas moved to Wilson where the couple blended their children to create a close family of five daughters.
Soon after, they built a second home dubbed “The Deas Inn” at Topsail Island and spent many happy years hosting friends and their growing family. It was at Topsail, her happy place until the end, that Deas loved hunting for sharks’ teeth with the grandchildren and eating sunset meals with family and friends at The Breezeway.
Known as “Da” to her six grandchildren, she cherished each one in a special way, and they felt it. King Charles Cavaliers, Bentley and Lilly, also occupied a place in her generous heart.
Deas and Walt shared many adventures traveling the world with friends, though she was also quite happy at home watching Carolina basketball, going to games in Chapel Hill or playing bridge. She achieved the rank of Life Master playing every week for decades with her beloved bridge club as well as anywhere else she was invited.
Deas is survived by her loving husband Walter Smith Linville, Jr., DDS of Wilson; daughters, Eugenia Coble Winborne of Rocky Mount, and Cameron Coble Lowe and husband, John of Raleigh; stepdaughters Lynn Linville-Lauritano and husband, Albert of Chapel Hill, Nancy Linville Bost and husband, Nick of Raleigh and Virginia Linville Kirkland and husband, Byron of Raleigh; grandchildren, Byron Barnes Kirkland, Jr., Virginia Dawson Kirkland, John William Lowe, Jr., Walter Jessup Lowe and Cameron St. Claire Lowe, all of Raleigh, and Deas Manning Winborne of Tarboro. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Capehart Valand of Greenville and Lesa Capehart Davidson of Greensboro, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she enjoyed spoiling.
A service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 100 Green Street NE, Wilson, North Carolina on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 3 p.m. with a reception following in Asbury Hall.
