Dennis Wray Hawley
September 15, 1946 – December 5, 2018
Hawk flew away from us Wednesday morning. He was the sole child of the late Elwood and Virginia Parris Hawley. He is survived by his uncle, Newman Parris and a host of cousins and friends.
Raised in the Five Points area, Dennis graduated with the class of 1964 from Ralph L. Fike High School and was awarded an Associates Degree in Business Administration in 1973 from Wilson Technical Community College. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1969. Trained as a bookkeeper, he worked in Raleigh and Atlantic Beach, as well as Wilson establishing and operating several well-known businesses’ in the entertainment, dining and tobacco fields.
A lifelong athletic supporter, Dennis enjoyed following all sports; high school, college and professional and especially his Panthers and Tarheels.
Zackery welcomed Dennis home, and Mandy and Andy look forward to following. Hawk has flown home.
Hawk’s funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
