Derrell Eugene Kicklighter, Jr. March 8, 1968 – May 10, 2018 Derrell Eugene “Gene” Kicklighter, Jr., 50, of Kenly passed away Thursday from a sudden illness. His funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Tony Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Gene was a loving, hard-working husband, and father. Every person who met him has a story. He had an incredible sense of humor and never failed to put a smile on everyone’s face. Gene was a man of few words, but when he spoke, everyone listened. He had the strongest work ethic and was willing to help anyone who needed it. Gene was a strong man but had the biggest heart of anyone. Gene is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Elliott Kicklighter of the home; his daughter, Hannah Karoline Howell of the home; son, Eli Anderson Kicklighter of the home; his mother, Francein Anderson Scott of Conway, South Carolina; his father, Derrell Eugene Kicklighter, Sr. and step-mother, Debby of Conway, South Carolina; father and mother-in-law, Rev. Frankie Elliott and Carolyn of Wilson; grandmother, Mary B. Elliott; sisters and brothers-in-law, Robin Kicklighter Oierud and husband, Sven, Kathy Kicklighter Mauldin and husband, Clayton, and Michelle Kicklighter Thompson and husband, Scott all of Conway, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Mary E. Farmer of Wilson; step-sisters, Tina T. Brown, Cheryl Scott, and Ravonda Floyd all of Conway, South Carolina, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his step-father, David P. Scott, and brother-in-law, Darrell Farmer. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Joyner’s Funeral Home, PO Box 425, Wilson, North Carolina 27894 to assist with the end of life expenses.
