Donald Beatty Lamm

Donald Beatty Lamm October 27, 1936 – January 29, 2021 Donald Beatty Lamm, 84, passed away on January 29th, 2021 after a 7 year bout with dementia. Born and raised in Wilson, he graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1955. Don then graduated from Davidson College in 1959 with a degree in History and afterwards became a Counterintelligence Officer in the US Army. He met his first wife, Carolyn Fish Lamm while attending UNC Law School and eventually moved back to Wilson to raise their young family. Don worked at Cecil B. Lamm Insurance Company for over 30 years and eventually retired from Arens/Webb Insurance. He was a member and elder at the First Christian Church in Wilson where he also taught Sunday school class for many years. Don was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 6 where he mentored many young men. He was also a proud Mason at the Wilson 712 Masonic Lodge. \"Hello, I\'m Don Lamm from Wilson\" is how he\'d introduce himself, even if you had met him many times before. While dementia can be a sad diagnosis, in the last several years of Don’s life, he had a chance to spend quality time with his children while building a better and more loving relationship. Don is now in Heaven after accepting Jesus Christ as his personal savior during a Sunday church service at Spring Arbor nursing home. Don always enjoyed eating breakfast with his friends each morning at Hardees or Bojangles, reading about US history, and spending time at his farm or cottage at Pamlico River with his second wife, Nancy. He loved spending time with his grandchildren even dressing up as the Easter Bunny and hopping around the yard when they were little. Perhaps Don\'s greatest legacy are the sacrifices he made, that most, including his children, were unaware of. Preceded in death by his father, Cecil Beatty Lamm and mother, Rachel Herring Lamm. Don is survived by his wife, Nancy Barnes Lamm; his sister, Janice Elizabeth Lamm; his 3 children with the late Carolyn Fish Lamm, daughter Hunter Lamm Peebles (Mike) of Raleigh, Jeffrey Barefoot Lamm (Elisabeth) of Raleigh, and Stuart Beatty Lamm (Donna) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Tucker Peebles (Elizabeth), Blake Peebles, Caramy Peebles, Haley Lamm Owens (Dallas), and Holden Lamm; great-grandson, Anthony Michael Peebles and his stepson, Ricky Barnes (Lummy) of Burlington. Due to Covid-19, no funeral arrangements will be held. The immediate family will have a graveside service at the Lamm Family Cemetery in Lucama, North Carolina. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my forever.” Psalm 73:26 Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
