Donnie Hugh Nichols

Donnie Hugh Nichols, 80, of Bailey, passed away Tuesday. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Nobles Chapel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Ron Cava along with Reverends Chase and Brittany Caldwell. Interment will follow in Nobles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and other times at the home of Don and Lela Nichols on Boykin Road, Sims.

Donnie was a lifelong member and a Deacon Emeritus serving 51 years at Nobles Chapel Baptist Church. He was a very well-respected farmer his entire life. He was very hard working and well known for the quality of work. Donnie loved baseball and was an avid fan of The New York Yankees. He had a great sense of humor and was quite the storyteller. Donnie loved his family, he loved his children, grandchildren, sisters, extended family and most of all, the love of his life, Rebecca.

Donnie is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Nichols of the home; daughter, Heidi Pope and husband, Wes of Wilson; son, Don Nichols and wife, Lela of Sims; grandchildren, Elijah Pope, Erin Pope, Tyler Nichols and Jacob Nichols; sisters, Nancy Hawley and husband, Jim and Joy Homza; brother-in-law, Randy Bailey and wife, Sandi and a host of loving and special cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Bonnie Nichols.
