Donnie King Price, Sr.

Donnie King Price, Sr., 88 of Middlesex died on November 18, 2023.

He was born in Middlesex, NC on March 24, 1935, to Daisy Glover Price and Mallie Hinton Price. He was the oldest of his parents’ five children. He also had three half-sisters and three half-brothers from his daddy’s first marriage.

After attending Middlesex School he served in the United States Army and then moved to Red Springs, NC where he met the love of his life, Shirley McNeill, in January 1957. They were married on April 14, 1957. This marriage, after just a three-month courtship, lasted for 64 years.

Donnie worked in sales for many years and then started farming. It was on the farm and in the greenhouse business that he taught his children the value of hard work. All of his children have been successful in their careers because of the lessons they learned from their daddy.  Raising children in a Christian home was among the most important purposes of his life and one could be sure that his family would be in church every time the doors were open. He was a Gideon and was member of the Wilson Camp of Gideons International.

He is survived by his children, Larry and wife, Cindy, Ronnie and wife, Kathy, Wayne and wife, Ellen, Donna Duncan and husband, Terry, David and wife, Sharon, Donnie and wife, Tracy, and Thomas and wife, Candace, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Donnie was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Shirley, grandsons Jason Price and Ian Price, parents, Daisy and Mallie Price, brothers Robert, Earl and M.H., sister Shelby Jean, three half-brothers, Edward, Joe and Howard, and three half-sisters, Laura, Mary and Ruby Pearl.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 22, at Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Middlesex. The Reverend Donnie Price, Jr. and the Reverend Jonathan Ange will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, at Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson and at other times at 9192 New Sandy Hill Church Road, Middlesex, NC 27557.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rosebud Baptist Church, 4313 Rosebud
