Dora Warren Rountree

August 30, 1912 – July 12, 2014

Dora W. Rountree was born in Smithfield on August 30, 1912.  She passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2014 at the age of 101. A resourceful woman, Dora was a wonderful cook and seamstress, baking cakes well into her nineties.  She met her husband, Richard Rountree, Sr. and they moved to Wilson in 1935.  They raised their three sons in their Wilson home while she worked at J.C. Penny’s and later at the First United Methodist Church.  Her wonderful cakes, pies and homemade dolls warmed many hearts throughout the years.  Her kindness and patience always present, Dora was a beautiful person inside and out.  Her unwavering faith and love for her family supported her throughout her life. Dora was predeceased by her loving husband of over seventy years, Richard C. Rountree, Sr. and her brother, Walter B. Warren. Dora is survived by her sons, Richard C. Rountree, Jr. and his wife, Wilhelmina of Wilson, Charles H. Rountree and wife, Nan of Wilmington and Stephen W. Rountree and his wife, Phyllis of North Myrtle Beach, SC; her five grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren; her three great-great-grandchildren; her niece Vickie Wade of Kinston and her sister-in-law, Mamie Warren of Kinston. The family will receive friends 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.  Services will follow at 2 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.  The Dr. William M.
