Dorothy Smith Tait February 7, 1922 – March 18, 2017   Dorothy Smith Tait, 95, of Wilson passed away Saturday. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro Street N, Wilson.  The Rev. Gary Walling will officiate.  A private burial will be conducted.   The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.   Dorothy graduated from Women’s College, UNCG in Greensboro in 1943. She taught at Wells School and Elvie Street School until her retirement in 1973.  During Dorothy’s retirement she enjoyed painting, quilting, cross-stitch, traveling, and especially gardening.  She was active in Garden Club, Bridge Club, and Church Circle at First Christian Church.   Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Diane Tait of Raleigh; her son, Dennis Tait and wife, Libba of Lake Waccamaw; granddaughters, Shauna Schmidt and husband, Steve of Raleigh, Julie Ferrell and husband, Shane of Bailey, Erin Broush and husband, Brian of Midlothian, Virginia, and Susan Williams and husband, Wes of Clayton; her grandson, Ed Tait and wife, Jackie of Wilson; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and her sister, Carol Kingsbury of Florence, South Carolina.   She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Warren Tait; sister, Eleanor Smith, and her brothers, Glenn Smith, Gordon Smith, Maxton Smith, and Earl Smith.   In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Dorothy’s memory to the First Christian Church, PO Box 2702, Wilson, North Carolina 27894 or to a charity of one’s choice.   Condolences may be directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home at www.joyners.net.
