Dorothy Virginia Batts Congleton

Dorothy Virginia Batts Congleton, 82, of Wilson passed away Friday. Her graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Major Jim Rickard and Major Gerald Street will officiate. The family will receive friends 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Dorothy was the beloved wife of George Earl Congleton. She served the Lord in her ministry, as a Salvation Army Officer, alongside her husband, George in many communities throughout the southeastern United States. Dorothy leaves behind her husband of sixty-four years, George Earl Congleton of the home; her daughters, Deborah Congleton Rickard and husband, Jim of Atlanta, Georgia and Teresa Congleton Street and husband, Gerald of Charlotte; her granddaughters, Katie Street Bernabe’ and husband, Jumaine of Winter Haven, Florida and Chelsea Brianna Rickard of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandson, Justin Congleton Street and wife, Anna of Brooklyn, New York; her great-granddaughter, Willow Grace Street; her great-grandsons, Nathaniel Bernabe’ and Nehemiah Bernabe’; her sister, Jo-Ann Batts Davis and husband, Thomas of Wilson and a host of other family members throughout the area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie J. and Dora Holland Batts and her sister, Judy Batts Robbins.
