Dorris Scott Woodall December 22, 1923 – August 2, 2018 Dorris Scott Woodall, 94 of Trinity Villas, Nashville passed away in her sleep Thursday, August 2, 2018. She was born in the mountains of Franklin County, Virginia on December 22, 1923. Dorris was delivered by a midwife riding a white horse and was of Scottish, Irish, and Cherokee descent. Dorris’ informative years were spent on the out skirts of Vinton, Virginia where her father managed a large dairy farm. She graduated from William Byrd High School in 1941, where she lettered in basketball and track. She moved to Martinsville, Virginia in 1942 and worked for the Dupont Plant for forty-three years. A part of the “Greatest Generation” she made Nylon for parachutes during WWII. Dorris loved to read history books, especially ones written about Robert E. Lee. Doris is survived by her son, Capt. Robert M. Woodall, USMC/U.S. Army retired and wife, Vivian; granddaughter, Sallie Creech; grandsons, Jason Woodall and wife, Hannah, and Jonathan Woodall and wife, Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Jacey Creech, and Samuel, Seth and Sarah Woodall and Grant and Tenley Woodall; her sisters, Patsy Hopkins, and husband, Jimmy, and Edith Oliver, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nelson Woodall in 1987; parents, William P. Scott and Lera Brogan Scott; sisters, Mildred Snider, Mabel Walker, Mary Anderson, Betty Jenkins, Barbara Chisom, and her brother, William Murphy Scott. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Crestview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the cemetery. The Rev. Fred Hardin will officiate.
