Dovie A. Batts

Dovie A. Batts, 79 of Wilson passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A private graveside service will be held. Rev. Wayne Whitley will officiate.

 The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of her daughter, Lee.

 Dovie had many hobbies that included fishing, traveling, crafting, painting bird houses, and watching hummingbirds. She was a former Senior Regent with the Wilson Women of the Moose and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Dovie was a loving person and a friend to all who knew her. Her family was the world to her, and they will miss her dearly.

 Dovie is survived by her daughters, Dovie Lee Spurlin of Wilson, Lorie A Granberry and husband, Ray of Carteret County, and Kimberly D. Whitley and husband, Michael of Wilson; special companion, Leroy Barnes; step-son, Greg Brown and wife, Maurine; grandchildren, Jenifer Spurlin, Jessica Williams and husband, Joshua, Sarah Whitley and fiancé, Austin, Erica Quidley and James “Jamie” K. Madison, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren with one on the way in February, 2025; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Mildred Lynn Batts and husband, Marvin of Elm City; brother, William “Bill” E. Batts, III of Winston Salem, and one nephew, Dave Batts.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred Batts; sister Priscilla Sipe; brother-in-law, Fred Sipe, and her nephew, Mark Steven Batts.

The family would like to express their thanks for the care and compassion she received from Gentiva Hospice and her caregivers, Datwan “Dee” Liles, Erica, Felicia, and Mary for all their love and support.
