Dr. Henry Wayne Ridout

Dr. Henry Wayne Ridout, 82, of Wilson, passed away Monday. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Claire Colcord will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Clark Hall, First Presbyterian Church, 414 Sunset Road NW, Wilson, North Carolina, 27893.

Wayne grew up in Durham, he graduated from Durham High School in 1958. He then went on to honorably and faithfully serve his country in the United States Army from 1958-1961. After Wayne’s service ended with the Army, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1961 – 1968 and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He opened his own general dentistry practice in 1968 in Wilson. Wayne was the President of the North Carolina Dental Society and honored with a Fellow of Dentistry from UNC Chapel Hill. Wayne loved all things related to the UNC Tarheels. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the Jaycees as well as very active in his church community at First Presbyterian.  When he wasn’t focusing on his career, his hobbies included genealogy, fishing, wood working, gardening, spending time at the beach and especially spending time with his friends and family. One of his favorite pastimes of all was cooking a pig, and steaming oysters while entertaining friends and family.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Carolyn Emma Ridout of the home; children, Debbie Dean and husband Rick of Clayton, Stephen Ridout and wife, Nicole of Apex, Glen Ridout and wife Veneshia of Apex, Kirsten Poythress of Wilson and Greg Barry and wife, Rebecca of Raleigh; grandchildren, Tyler Dean and wife, Amanda, Leah Ridge and husband, Steven, Claire Ridout, Avery Ridout, Jennings Ridout, Lucy Ridout, Charles Ridout, Willow Ridout, Ryan Poythress, Mackenzie Poythress, Jack Barry and Wesley Barry; great grandchildren, James Ridge, Henry Ridge, Izzy Ridge, Hazel Ridge, Addie Ridge, Kherington Dean, Quinn Dean and Wade Dean. Brothers Earl and wife Zona Ridout, Eddie and wife Merle Ridout and brother in law, Marshall Downey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mabel Ridout; sister, Beverly Downey and granddaughter, Emma Poythress.
