Durwood C. Tyson
January 25, 1946 – July 19, 2018
Durwood C. Tyson, 72, of Wilson passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 – 4 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Durwood was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed making others laugh. Durwood served his country with honor and pride with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the prestigious Purple Heart medal. Durwood owned and operated Tyson’s Sanitation Service for many years. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Happy Valley Country Club and treasured all his time with his golfing buddies.
Durwood is survived by the family he loved, his wife, Janice Tyson of the home; his daughters, Julie Tyson of Charlotte and Lisa Brice and husband, Kevin of New Bern; his granddaughters, Kendal Brice and Kyla Brice, and his sisters, June Shaw of Rocky Mount and Linda Moss of Spring Hope.
Durwood grew up with and was loved by six sisters and three brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis and Lula Cooper Tyson.
