Edith Susan Smith Little

Edith Susan Little of Wilson, NC, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018.
Susan was born June 26, 1925, the youngest of six, was the daughter of Ralph Kenan Smith and Edith Susan Smith. She is predeceased by her siblings, Woodrow Wilson (WW), Raymond C., Nannie Mae (Albertson), Prentice Wooten (PW) and Ralph Kenan Smith II (RK).
Susan married Edward Wilson Little of Falkland NC, in 1959 and lived with him in Wilson until his early passing in January of 1964. They had one son, Ralph Edward Little.
Susan was a graduate of BF Grady High School and attended Flora MacDonald College and Montreat College where she studied Home Economics. Her Home Economics education led to a 33-year career with the State of NC as a dietitian, first at the Eastern North Carolina Tuberculosis Sanatorium, and then at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf. After enjoying retirement for about a week, Susan took a course in Personal Attending at Wilson Community College. She was in great demand for 20 years, continuing to assist people well into her 80s. Susan was happiest when she was helping others. She never sat down without asking, \"What can I get you?\"
Susan was a founding member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church where she was a devoted congregationalist. She enjoyed singing with the choir, tending the little ones, and going to exercise class. She offered others a ride to church until she was 90.
Susan loved music and dancing. She loved to tell how hard it was to do the Highland Fling. Susan also enjoyed gardening, canning and traveling. Her travels included, England, Scotland, Bermuda, and a Caribbean Cruise
Susan is survived by her son, Ralph Edward and his wife Karen, as well as four grandchildren, Katharine Susan, Elizabeth Mattie, Edward Jackson, and William Michael. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved taking them on vacation to the Outer Banks and Williamsburg as well as spending time in the summer in South Jersey, enjoying the pool and the beach and seeing \'The big water\". Going to her grandchildren\'s various shows and concerts kept her busy while visiting in New Jersey.
Susan will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends all those that had to good fortune to know and love her.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Keith Cobb officiating. Interment will follow in Falkland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson.
