Edward Douglas "Doug" Barnes, Sr.

Doug Barnes, 79, of Wilson passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Wilbanks Christian Church, Elm City. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Pastor Dr. Coleman Markham and Associate Pastor Dwight Batts will officiate.

The family will receive friends and family Tuesday afternoon from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Wilbanks Christian Church, 6128 NC 42, Elm City.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Tempie Barnes; sons, Edward Douglas Barnes, Jr. and wife, Kristin, and Dwight Barnes and his wife, Kelly; grandson, Nate Barnes; granddaughter, Ella Barnes; brother, Bobby Barnes; his fur baby, Christmas Cookie and a host of numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.

He was preceded in his death by his parents, Simon and Renda Barnes; brothers, Harold Barnes and his wife, Christine, Reid Barnes and his wife, Joan, Kenneth Barnes, Worth Barnes, and Billy Barnes, and his sister-in-law, Gladys Barnes.

Doug proudly served his country as part of the 11^th Calvary in the U.S. Army, earning a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War. He was an active member and deacon at Wilbanks Christian Church. He loved and supported his family and community, and spent hours at the beach, fishing, and reading voraciously. Nothing meant more to Doug than spending time at a baseball game with his two boys, Edward, and Dwight.
