Eleanor “Ellie” Maurer Hammond, 86, of Wilson passed away Wednesday.  A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Wilson.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.  The Rev. Marty Stebbins will officiate. The family will receive friends 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the Common Room at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 202 North Goldsboro Street, Wilson and other times at the home of Jesse and Jody Bissette. Ellie was born and raised in Chicopee, MA, the only child of the late Albert J. and Emily R. Maurer.  She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Dr. George Robert Hammond, a local chiropractor.  Ellie moved to Wilson with her husband in 1949.  During the following years, she was a mother of four daughters, grandmother of two girls and two boys, and a housewife in the early years and an office manager for her husband’s practice for some twenty-five years. Ellie was a very active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, a lay reader and a lay Eucharistic minister.  She was a long time member of the Arts Council of Wilson and served on its Board of Directors in the early 1980’s.  On a state level, she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the North Carolina Chiropractic Association, having served as president in the middle 1960’s.  Ellie was a member of the NC Museum of Art and the NC Museum of History Associates. Ellie is survived by her daughters; Carol Reaves and husband, Lacy of Raleigh, Jody Bissette and husband, Jesse of Wilson, Robin Hammond and husband, Bill Sandifer of Raleigh and Allyson Downs and husband, Sam of Cary; her granddaughters, Ashley Bissette of Wilson and Lauren Summers and husband, Brian of Gaithersburg, MD; her grandsons, David Reaves of Raleigh and Adrian Bissette of Atlanta, GA and her great-granddaughters, Emily Summers and Anna Claire Summers both of Gaithersburg, MD.
