Elizabeth Ann Glover Whitley
November 21, 1930 – March 4, 2014
Elizabeth Ann Glover Whitley, 83, of Bailey left this earth on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was met at heaven’s gate by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, family, friends and especially her husband of sixty-three years, Oscar Whitley, Jr., who departed on January 28, 2013 to go to his heavenly home. A funeral service will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bailey Town Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Blackman and Rev. Blake Stallings will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at 11601 Camp Charles Road, Bailey. Elizabeth Ann enjoyed serving her Lord at Rock Springs OFWB Church in Bailey. She served as president and treasurer of the Women’s Auxiliary, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and as a member of the choir. Elizabeth Ann was awarded the Lifetime Membership Award for the OFWB Woman’s Auxiliary. She worked for the Claims Department of Employment Security Commission where she retired. Mom enjoyed working on the farm with Daddy as well as gardening. During her illness she was comforted by the presence and love of her cats, Bubba and Miss Callie. Many times they could be seen lying in Mom’s lap or on her shoulder. It is that same unconditional love and comfort our parents taught us that as Christians, we share with our Heavenly Father. Elizabeth Ann leaves behind her loving family, her daughters; Vicky Murray and husband, Brent of Zebulon and Sandra Brown and husband, Charlie of Bailey; her son, Jeff Whitley and wife, Sharon of Bailey; her grandchildren, Chris and Allyson Murray, Valerie Worrell, Carrie Ann Brown, Emily Brown, Clay Whitley, Alex Whitley and Seth Whitley; her great-grandchildren, Brent, Braxton, Dayne, Victoria and Kayla; her sisters, Margaret Ferrell and husband, Bobby of Middlesex and Carolyn Hipps of Raleigh; her sisters-in-law, Marie Manning of Middlesex, Rebecca Jones of Zebulon, Mildred Whitley of Zebulon, Robenia Whitley of Middlesex, Hazel Whitley of Smithfield; her many nieces and nephews and the Congregation of Rock Springs OFWB Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Whitley, Jr., her parents, Hural A. and Carrie Lee Manning Glover. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Scott Smith and his staff of the SMOC and the WilMed Nursing Facility and especially the staff of WilMed Hospice.
