Elizabeth "Beth" Lucas Fogleman

Beth Fogleman passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at her home in Wilson, North Carolina.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 202 N. Goldsboro Street, Wilson, North Carolina. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service.

Beth Fogleman was born on September 27, 1940, in Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from Winthrop University in 1962 and was a school teacher and flight attendant before her marriage to Maxwell Brooks Fogleman, Jr. on July 3, 1964. After many moves across the South due to Max’s job, they settled in Wilson in 1985.

Beth was very passionate about serving her church and community. She was a longtime member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and past president of the Episcopal Church Women and was very active in the church’s Altar Guild and loved volunteering at the Soup Kitchen. She served on the Wilson Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and was a member of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was also honored to be a member of the Citizen Advisory Board of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Beth was passionate about her church, garden, flowers, animals, the beach and the Low Country of South Carolina, but “Nana’s” true love and joy was spending time with her six wonderful grandchildren. These memories will last a lifetime. She was fond of her book club and the friendships that ensued. Her heart for serving led her to share from the abundance of her garden, whether vegetables or flowers. You knew you were really special if you were fortunate enough to be the recipient of her renowned cheese biscuits.

Beth is survived by sons, Maxwell Brooks Fogleman III and his wife, Kelly Baker Fogleman of Wilson, North Carolina, Samuel Reid Fogleman and his wife, Jennifer Misback Fogleman of Raleigh, North Carolina, and son Jonathan Lucas Fogleman of Heber City, Utah and his partner, Scott Dixon; grandchildren, Carson Elizabeth Fogleman, Maxwell Brooks Fogleman IV, Lillian Clark Fogleman, Samuel Reid Fogleman Jr, William Lucas Fogleman, and Charles Rutledge Fogleman; her sister, Nancy Lucas Dean of Mackinaw Island, Michigan; many distant relatives and beloved in-laws; her special caregiver, Angela Smith and her “babies” of the home, cats, Tiss and Toot.

Beth is proceeded in death by her parents, Alexander Hume Lucas Jr. and Margaret Alexa Reid Lucas, and her beloved husband, Maxwell Brooks Fogleman Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1527, Wilson, North Carolina, 27894.

Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
