Elsie Mae Matthews Skinner

Elsie Mae Matthews Skinner November 19, 1925 – September 29, 2019 Elsie Mae Matthews Skinner, 93 of Wilson passed away Sunday.  Her funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.  The Pastor Benny Poythress will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of her daughter, Jean Barnes. Elsie was a devout Christian mother, sister, daughter and friend.  Let us celebrate the life she shared with us here on Earth and rejoice with her soul that now dances in Heaven.  Sister Skinner as many knew her was the guiding light and warm home of her family, and the rock of many great friends.  “Granny” was a praying woman, whom we would swear could whisper into the ear of her Lord himself.  She is having a glorious homecoming on the streets of gold, so let us continue the joy she feels here on Earth. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Jean S. Barnes and husband, Mickey of Lucama; sons, William “Buddy” Skinner and wife, Peggy of Lucama, Bobby Skinner and wife, Debbie of Wilson, Ricky Skinner and wife, Venise of Wilson and Mickey Skinner and Janet of Wilson; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Skinner of Black Creek and her special friends, Kimberly Mason, Phyllis Cornforth and Tess Bergelin. She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Buck” Skinner; parents, Charlie and Penny Batts Matthew; sisters, Dorothy Pate, Levata “Doll” Heath and Eula Gray Lindsey and her son, Charles “Dick” Skinner and brother, Charles Matthews. Condolences may be directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home at www.joyners.net.
