Ernest Ray Jones

Ernest “Ray” Jones, 84, of Wilson passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon. His funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Bobby Fletcher will officiate.
The family will receive friends 11a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Born in Wilson County, Ray was a three sport star athlete at Rock Ridge High School. He served his country honorably during the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a hardworking and dedicated man with the Atlantic Coast Line and then Firestone until retirement. Ray was a member of Evansdale United Methodist Church where he served his Lord.
Ray is survived by his wife, Jeanette T. Jones; his sons, James Bennett “Bennie” Tedder (Beverly) of Lucama, Wayne Tedder of Kinston, and Stuart “Butch” Tedder (Lisa) of Wilson; granddaughters, Leigh Ann Freeman (Pat), Jamie Tyndall, and Jeri Edwards (James); great-granddaughters, Evelyn Freeman, and Sydney Edwards; great-grandsons, Ayden Tyndall, Bentley Tyndall, and Christian Edwards and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was the son of the late Lonnie and Mamie Howard Jones; along with his brothers, Alton, Earl, Horace and Ralph Jones; his sister, Esther Jones Bowen, and great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Tyndall.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Evansdale United Methodist Church, 4334 Evansdale Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27893 or WilMed Hospice, 1705 Tarboro Street, Wilson, North Carolina 27893.
