Ernestine Godwin Etheridge
July 21, 1936 – November 19, 2013
Ernestine Godwin Etheridge, 77, of Bailey went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 after a long extended illness. A celebration of her homegoing will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, 5720 Lamm Road, Wilson. The Rev. T. Elwood Long will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Ernestine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed and thought of often with warm memories that will bring smiles, laughter and tears. She served her church as the church secretary, WM Secretary and Treasurer and taught for years as a bible class teacher. Ernestine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Louis Etheridge of the home; her daughters, Gail E. Davis and husband, Stanley of Wilson and Cindy E. Howell of Calypso; her grandchildren, Shanna S. Wood and husband, Ricky of Rock Ridge, Blake Sanders of Bailey, David Howell, Daniel Howell and Zachary Howell all of Calypso; her great-grandchildren, Kaleb Wood, Silas Wood and Jarrah Wood all of Rock Ridge, Alexi Sanders and Landen Sanders both of Bailey; her sisters, Joan Brantley and husband, William of Elm City and Brenda Anderson and husband, Reid of Elm City; her brother, Joe Godwin and wife, Cynthia of Wilson and sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Godwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Godwin and Lessie Glenn Earp Godwin; her sister, Annie Lee Viverette and her brothers, Jimmy Godwin, Larry Godwin, Bobby Godwin and Walter Godwin. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Gabrielle Gasper, Karen Marsh, Kathy Glover, Joyce Morgan and Sherry Ferrell for all their love and passion for our loved one during the last few weeks. Thank you also to Dr. Hal Woodall for your compassionate medical care to keep her comfortable.
