Esther “Jane” Sawrey Rountree, 81 of Wilson passed away Friday, September 6, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Rev. David Barnes will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30- 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wison.
Jane was a smart, dedicated, and devoted hard worker. She worked with MelloButter Cup for many years, starting as a clerk and culminating as Controller. Additionally, she also worked for BB&T. Jane was a woman of strong faith, and she taught Sunday school for many years. Family was very important to Jane. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She attended their soccer games, assembling puzzles with them and made special stockings at Christmas for them from their MeMa.
Jane is survived by her son, James Rountree and wife, Candice; grandchildren, Lilah Claire and Charlie Rountree, and her special cousin and dear friend, Lois Skinner.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, James Gresham Rountree; parents, Frank and Nona Sawrey, and her brothers, Kenneth Sawrey and G.T. Sawrey.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jane’s memory to Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 2833 Tilgham Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
