Esther Lou Johnson Barnes

March 12, 1933 – October 13, 2013

Esther Lou Johnson Barnes, 80, of Macclesfield passed away Sunday after a brief illness.  She was devoted to her family and was known for her loving, kind, gentle and compassionate spirit. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Walstonburg Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Walstonburg.  Evangelist Woody Parrish will officiate. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at 7303 Shallingtons Mill Road, Macclesfield. Esther is survived by her brother, Marvin Earl Johnson and wife, Evelyn of Walstonburg; her step-children, Grady Lee Barnes, Jr. and wife, Jackie of Wilson, Jean Turner and husband, Jimmy of Fairfax, VA, Sydney Young and husband, Gilbert of Virginia Beach, VA, Wendy Allen of Clayton and Cathy Black and husband, Frank of Wilson; 14 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lou May Johnson; her first husband, Hady McKeel; her second husband, Grady Lee Barnes, Sr.; her sisters, Olivia Brock, Alice Savage, Mabel Croom and Pauline Rouse; her step-brother, Junior Graves and a step-son, Rusty Barnes.
