Evelyn Webb Snipes June 1, 1920 – April 14, 2015 Evelyn Webb Snipes, 94, of 1006 Salem St., Wilson, passed away Tuesday. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Wilson. The Rev. Tom Watkins will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Evelyn was born June 1, 1920 in the Edgecombe County town of Pinetops, the daughter of the late Grover Herman Webb and Isabel Corbett Webb. She graduated from South Edgecombe High School and Greensboro College. She subsequently taught in the public schools of North Carolina during World War II. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. She served on many committees as well as being an Elder and past president of the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She became an Honorary Life Member of The Presbyterian Women in 1983. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Finley Snipes, her parents, a brother, Vernon Howard Webb, and a sister, Marjorie Ruth Webb. Surviving are her daughter, Evelyn Anne Snipes of Wilson; her son, Robert Finley Snipes, Jr. of Wilson; a grandson, Robert Finley Snipes III of Wilson; a niece, Virginia Clark Webb Watson of Raleigh; cousins, JoAnn Crisp Tetterton of Pine Knoll Shores and Anne Webb Ipock of Pinetops. The family would like to extend thanks to those who provided care to Evelyn and Finley over these last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 3184, Wilson, NC 27895 or the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 112, Pinetops, NC, 27864 or to the charity of one’s choice.
