Floyd T (TED) Rhodes, JR Sept 27, 1942 – Aug 24, 2020 Ted Rhodes, Jr. passed away at home on August 24th after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan S. Rhodes; parents, Theodore and Louise Brown Rhodes and his brother, Russell Brown. Ted is survived by his wife, Susan of the home; daughter, Malea S. Rhodes (Tina) of Northampton, Massachusetts; godchildren, Alana Mooring of Wilson and Dustin Mooring of Seattle, and his daughter, Emma of Wilson; adopted grandson, Qua\'Zavion Johnson; mother-in-law, Betty Bass of the home who assisted in his care; Charlene Smith (Douglas) of Elm City, Billy Bass (Lynn) of Orrum, four wonderful nieces and their families, Noe and Lumi Perez and their children Isai and Nissi, and a K9 companion, DeeDee along with extended family, many friends and his church family. Ted graduated From Monticello High School in Monticello, Illinois. He served as a Captain in the US Army. Most of his professional life was spent in the restaurant business, beginning in the Midwest and later in the south. He settled in Wilson County in 1984, working with Diversified Foods (Pizza Inns, Steak Barn, and Quality Pancake House). After retirement, he became involve in the Master Gardener’s Program. Out of that affiliation, he started a lawn maintenance and landscape business. Ted served for many years on the Board of the NC Restaurant Association and as its Chairman for a year. He was the founding Chairman of the NC Hospitality Education Foundation. Additional public service includes service on the NC Public Health Commission and NC Work First Program. On a local level, he served on the Wilson County Board of Social Services for several terms, Crimestoppers Board, volunteered as an EMT at Elm City Emergency Services, worked with Wilson Botanical Gardens and facilitated a Compassionate Friends group through the Mental Health Agency. Special thanks to the offices of Doctors, Jonathon DeWald, James Rounder, and Malay Agrawal and to the Staff of UNC/Nash Hospice for their services and caring. Ted\'s memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 with the family receiving friends prior to the service from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Memorials may be directed to Life Church, Life Church Building Fund, PO Box 343, Sharpsburg, North Carolina 27878 Please practice social distancing and the wearing of masks as you deem appropriate.
